Therapeutic Life Story Work
TLSW was pioneered by Professor Richard Rose and has been developed over more than 25 years to support children, young people, and adults who have experienced trauma. It is designed to help participants explore their personal history, understand the impact of early experiences, and connect these insights to their present and future lives. The approach is grounded in theories of attachment, loss, and grief, and emphasizes collaboration between the child, their primary carer, and the TLSW practitioner.
Key FeaturesTriadic Approach: TLSW involves the child, their carer (often an adoptive parent or long-term foster carer), and the practitioner working together throughout the process.
Evidence-Based: The Rose Model of TLSW is the first model of Life Story Work to be independently researched and validated, showing excellent outcomes for traumatised children and young people tlswi.com+1.
Therapeutic Goals: The process helps children make sense of their past, externalize thoughts and emotions, and develop a positive sense of self while improving attachment and relationships with carers
